He smiled, for the first time a genuine smile rather than a sardonic or mocking grin. He thoughtfully chewed on a date, carefully emptying the remainders into his bag. Standing slowly, he carefully stretched fatigued muscles, offering her a hand, though he knew she could rise on her own. "I will come to Aswan with you. You are right, I do need a better place to stay than the oasis. Impulsively, he reached out to touch her face with a single finger. "You'd best put your veil back and fix your appearance to your satisfaction if you want to make any sort of impression in Aswan. Myself, I think you look fine, but then again you women often have higher standards of perfection than I do," he said with a chuckle to take the sting out of his words. He bent at the pools edge, studying his reflection with a grunt. He dipped his hand in the water, smoothing his unkempt hair back from his face. Dipping another handful of the cool liquid he gave his face a brief scrub, pulling a rag from his bag to finish the job. Slightly cleaner and definately more damp he rose once more.
