They will keep the pain down, and help fight infection. I cannot do much for the outside of your leg. If you can make it down to lake's edge, perhaps you could rest it in waters to reduce the swelling. Take it easy for a while, as you have been doing here. If you would have pushed yourself to get home, it would have made it worse.
