Subject: "X-Files in the Hood"-- set report

Hi All!

Thanks for those interested in my latest XF happenings. I really really wish you all could see these things too.

Not as much to tell this time but it was cool having The X-Files near me for three days. The neighbors were sent letters explaining the situation. We were only told it was something for Fox television but when they said the filming might go until 3 or 4 am on Friday night I had a feeling it might be TXF knowing the long hours they keep. I couldn't think of another Fox drama except Dark Angel.

I went over there on Wednesday evening. The filming was taking place at a house one block over from me and in the next block down. An easy walk over. They had equipment trailers on other streets though including mine.

When I approached I had a number of crew people say hi to me, ask my name, where I lived. I think they have to be nice to the neighbors since it's kind of a disruption. I spoke a lot with a production assistant named Chris who told me the episode was called "Lord of the Flies" and in his words it is about, "a bug boy and his bug mom." At one point Chris said the neighbor next door to the house being used caused a major scene swearing at everyone and delayed production for an hour. Chris hinted that they may have had to pay him off. Everyone on that street had to sign a form okaying the shoot so I don't know what this guys problem was. Didn't he think having TXF there was cool!? Guess not.
Gillian showed up pretty soon after I got there so I really lucked out. She was brought to the scene in a black SUV. I wonder if she was driven on my street?! And I wonder if she has a regular driver because that was the same type and color of car she was in at the Fight Club shoot. The crew greeted her.

The scene I saw shot was just a little bitty thing which will probably amount to 3 or 4 seconds on screen. Two cars pulling up to the house. But you know filming. They have to do it 6 or 7 times! The first driver was in a Range Rover and I thought it was Robert Patrick. An easy assumption. But then I wasn't sure and thought, as Devlin suggested, that it was a stand-in. Later I asked Chris and he said it wasnt RP. He said, "If Robert Patrick was here you'd know it!" I wonder what he meant by that? But it wasn't a stand-in either. Chris said he was an actor featured in the episode and it was clear how it was filmed that he was part of the show. At one point I even
saw him fixing his hair in the car mirror. :-) I did recognize Michelle, GA's standin, there.

When they stop in front of the house GA gets out of the car and the RP lookalike gets out with some kind of contraption he's carrying. Kind of like what the guy had in Detour, the Fleer. This was some kind of gadget. Then they go in the house. They kept redoing the car scene with GA following the RP guy in a silver 4 door sedan. Another thing I noticed was both cars had New Jersey plates so I figure it's set in New Jersey. Aren't I smart!? ;-0 Chris asked how I knew that and when I told him he said I was more observant then him. I think more XF obsessed might be the real reason!

Oh, earlier when Chris told me I could watch I told him he could just kick me out if I was in the way. I said this a bit too loud I guess because GA looked right at me from the car! Oops! That's my drama trained voice projecting too loudly! I was quieter after that! he he
GA drove the car herself. Going forward she was fine but she wasn't so great backing up a couple of the times to redo the takes. One time she had trouble and the crew was laughing. The funniest bit was she was backing up kind of crooked and there were crew people in the street so she yelled, "Get out of the way!" It sounded so familar in that high register Scully voice! Everyone laughed.

She was dressed in the famous long black Scully coat and on one of the takes when they came out of the house to do the car part again she was waving a flashlight around.

An interesting note was when she was in the car she had the radio on playing music. I never thought about that but I guess they could always have music on in car scenes and then just edit out the sound. I didn't hear any music in the RP guy's car though, just in GA's. Maybe she drives better with it.

After that they were inside the house to film a scene so I couldn't really see a thing. Also they had a pyrotechnic guy with fog machines going so it was a spooky night time foggy setting.

On a side note, a man and woman were there watching and they'd missed the car stuff. I was chatting with them. The man was a fan who'd watched the show from the beginning and the woman said she only started watching last year and was confused. Gee, I wonder why?:-)
The guy really liked GA and was waiting for her to come out of the house. I told him about GA wearing her coat and the flashlight and the car music. He was so excited to hear about it all and I felt so bad that he missed it because it was obvious he really wanted to see GA.

Here's the kicker. This guy bore an uncanny, spooky resemblance to Matthew Perry! (Chandler from Friends). I finally had to ask him "Has anyone ever told you..." He said "it's the hair." He gets the Perry question A LOT. He looks like him during his short hair, thin with glasses period. It was really weird how much he looked like him. Hard to take my eyes off of him! Even his mannerisms and vocal style were like Chandler's. He even kept his hands in his pockets like Chandler. And the way he reacted to hearing about GA was just like Chandler when he goes ga-ga over some woman. It was very weird! Needless to say he was quite cute. :-D

Well we finally all gave up because GA didn't come out of the house. I went back on Thursday but nothing was really going on at the time. Chandler and his female friend said they might come back the next night but if they did I missed them. I wonder if he ever got to see GA?

The crew was there all through Friday but I didn't go over again. I did see a camera car during the day. I think they started packing up about 11 pm Friday so they beat their 3 am guess. It was sad when they were gone. I could see one of the trucks from my front window and I'll miss having it there now.

Well that's it. It will be interesting to see what all they used from this location. I wasn't in it this time. I guess my Fight Club resume will have to stand on its own. ;-)
