I agree that it was a bad decision to keep X-Files around past the end of season seven. They had a chance to go out with a bang, as a highly-rated and critically acclaimed show, with a huge audience eagerly awaiting the next XF movie.
Instead, they chose to do a couple more lackluster seasons in which the ratings nosedived and critics went from praising the show to joking about it. I realize this was probably a financial decision, but I don't really understand it even from that viewpoint. Future XF movies probably would have done *much* better had they begun after "Requiem".
