More news on a possible second XFmovie. . .

According to The Inland Empire Strikes Back, Robert Patrick will reprise his role as FBI Agent John Doggett in "X-Files 2."

"I owe my sci-fi fans a great deal of my career and I look forward in doing some more. We have the 'X-Files' movie coming up soon and I can't wait to reprise my role of John Doggett once again," Patrick said at the recent premiere of "Mr. 3000."

Sounds like a confirmation to me.

The Doggett character was created during the show's eighth season to fill in for David Duchovny, who agreed to appear as Mulder in only a handful of shows.

There's no word on Doggett's second partner, Agent Monica Reyes (played by Annabeth Gish in the final season), but if Doggett is in there's reason to believe the whole "X-Files" gang -- both new school and old school -- will be on board for the movie follow-up.

Oddly enough, given my less-than-enthusiastic response to the introduction of the Doggett character in the first place, this does *NOT* fill me with dread. If we absolutely must have a an actor other than DD or GA featured prominently in the next movie, I'd just as soon it be RP. Better him than a "big name" star like Brad Pitt or Reese Witherspoon. At least with RP as the other male lead, DD will still get top billing.
Quite frankly, I still have my doubts about this movie ever actually going into production. Every few months somebody pops up and talks about how "committed" everybody who has ever worked on the show -- from CC and the stars down to the camermen -- is to making another movie. But actions speak louder than words, and I haven't noticed anybody yelling "Action" to start actually *making* another XF movie.
