I agree with those who said they probably couldn't get married because of Mulder's fugitive status. I know you said in extreme circumstances a priest would perform a wedding without the legal documents, but what could Scully have done? "Excuse me Father Jones, can you marry us? We can't get a license because my fiance was tried and sentenced by the FBI, then I sprung him from the clink and he's on the run. But he's innocent, I promise." Another thing is, will a priest marry a catholic and a non-catholic? We know Mulder isn't religious by any means. ANYHOW, here is my fanwank.

When Father Joe said something about "your husband" and she snapped "he's not my husband" it was right after their fight where they essentially split (which was totally lame in the first place) and she was angry at him and angry at the situation and she was just acting out. I'm sure that for the past six years that they've been living as husband and wife and she considers them so.
