Subject: How many houses did Mulder own??

I was rewatching "Paper Hearts" the other night and in that ep Mulder takes a serial killer (who he suspect of possibly having murdered Samantha) to the house his father had owned on Martha's Vineyard. Previously in the same season, Mulder had gone to the family's summer house in Rhode Island. His mother, at this point, lives in Connecticut.

So. . .since Mulder's sister was dead (or long missing) and his parents were divorced, presumably Mulder had inherited the houses his father owned in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. And, presumably, he inherited his Mom's hous in Connecticut when she passed away in Season 7.

What did he do with all these houses?? Why did he keep them if he had no intention of living in them??

I can kinda/sorta understand keeping the summer house, but why all the others?? Wouldn't the property taxes and maintenance swallow up all his salary?
