I think for me the atmosphere that the music creates is essential to the action unfolding. I am not explaining myself very well. I think what I'm saying is that it is not so much background but one of the key elements, for me. I would notice it *alongside* everything else. In much the same way that I can take in dramatic lines, good acting, understanding the plot, noticing Mulder's clothes, noticing how particularly cute Mulder is looking this episode etc, I also have some part of my concentration on the music. I think it says a lot about Mark Snow's talents....

I suppose if I *did* vacate the room when 'Home' was on, and just listened,I wouldn't have to see the revolting Peacock family. I think seeing them was half the reason I got a queasy feeling!!! I have only seen this episode twice. I don't know if I could bring myself to watch it again!
