Subject: Filming with David and Gillian!--Part Two.....

Next, David's standin Steve Kesiak blocked a scene with him hoisting the female standin over his shoulder like David had in the earlier scenes. Only this time Steve (now also dressed in a suit like Mulder) walked all the way to the end of the carpet untill he was very close to us in the front row! And then the realization hit us... Oh...My...God! When they shoot the actual scene guess who is going to be RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF US!? AHHHHHHH! A girl two rows directly behind me was trying to keep her composure knowing David would be that close to us for the scene! OMG OMG! OMG!

And that's exactly what we will get. David doing his fireman's carry with the woman again now heading straight for us like The Titanic heading for an iceburg! And this time we will be in camera range! We're lovin our seat choices now!

But guess what? Guess what!!? We aren't
going to get to watch, or stare or gawk at him as he approaches! Why, you ask? Because, and this was one of two absolute best things of the day for me. The reason we won't be able to watch and stare at him as he comes toward us in because we will ALL be busy acting in the scene WITH him! It just dawned on me then the impact of how that felt. We had already done our pantomime cheering during a scene he was in so we'd worked together before (hee hee!) but it suddenly hit me that all of us X-Philes would be working with David to create this scene and get this shot.

Now how cool is that!? :-)
WoW! WoW WoW! And work we did! It's back to the fighting! More of that simulated fighting we did last Friday but this time all us philes were really getting into it! People were really doing their best to look like they were attacking each other! I think we all wanted to make it especially good knowing David was right there acting with us! At least those of us in the front row did! The director and crew were so worried we might get hurt but everyone was having so much fun beating each other up and trying to do a good job! And we were going to be busy doing that while David was coming right at us and we couldn't see him. Obviously if we looked it would spoil the shot. But you know, it felt amazing knowing we were all part of this great thing and David was in it with us! And as soon as the yelled cut!, after every take I looked for David. And sure enough there he was right down below at the bottom of the steps very close to me! He'd walked right up on us without us seeing him! So I got a good look at him then. He was a lot closer than I saw him at Jay Leno but what made this extra special was that, even though they'd yelled cut! by the time I could look at him, all the time he was approaching he was approaching as MULDER. So in other words there's a good chance I will be onscreen with Fox Mulder! That idea just blows my mind! An old term, but the best one that fits! Man, oh man!

I think it was after the first or second take that, after the cut, we saw David laugh and point at the two girls in the front row just across from us. "What did you do?!" we asked them. One girl showed us that she had the other girl in a headlock and was giving her a noogie (gently pounding on the head).David thought that looked funny apparently! We did several takes of us basically beating the crap out of each other and not being able to look at David until we heard cut! And he'd always be right there when we could finally look! I knew how he'd gotten there but it was so weird to have him just seemingly appear right near us all of a sudden. Sooo close! But what a marvelous feeling to all be working together on the scene! I think everyone on the X-Files was really very surprised by our enthusiasm with the fighting. We were so into it and I don't think they expected us to be so dedicated!

After each take we all applauded or efforts and cheered at the scene in general and I aplauded for David, my coworker. Ha! Ha! And everyone seemed to love it when the director said we had to do it over and over again! X-Files fans were having fun fighting! LOL We really got a workout too!

After that, David left and we were moved to the complete opposite side of the auditorium to get some different angles so we did more of the pantomime cheering bit with the wrestlers and standins. We were worried we would lose our great front row seats when we went back and then when were going to be ushered back to where we were before they told us we had to sit in the same seats for continuity. Hooray! For once (LOL) The X-Files uses continuity and we're so glad! But that's not the best part of it. During that time a woman dressed in Scully's clothes had come down the entry ramp. We thought it was her standin but later learned it was Gillian! We also were now given directions from the main director of the episode, Paul Shapiro, His name will be on the opening credits so that was fun following his direction. One thing he kept saying was that were were supposed to look into the tunnel at Scullu in between the fighting (yep, more fighting). Scully is going to be there? In THAT tunnel?! The one right above the section we were sitting in when we go back to the same seats we had to be in for continuity? Whoo hoo! We scored big time on those seats! We found out from Jill who had beat us back to our seats that the standin for Scully was blocking the scene and stopping in the aisle right near where we would be! Even one of the crew members told us we were in a great place and would be right there on camera! And with Scully!

"Do not get any on Gillian". Now that's an odd comment to hear! But a crew member told us that referring to the popcorn we were given to throw! LOL

OK here comes the bad part, the really bad part that ticked us all off! Suddenly after all of our anticipated excitement they tell us we have to move from our front row seats! Noooooooo! They want to put some stuntmen in our seats and have on of them fall over the railing. So we got moved out. First we were told we could just move over into the next aisle and then a stupid assistant said we had to go to the back. Argh! G-WW, Carol and I were kicked out of our prime spot and so were the four people in the third row.Our second row of four friends behind us got to stay. But we were all so angry. Our enthusiasm just fell flat. The girl who was freaked out about having David so close was really ticked. While we all can see the use of stuntmen that didn't help us feeling like we'd been cheated out of something. And what about the continuity!? We were supposed to be in the same seats how can it match if we are moved!? So we were up there away from the main action and only half heartedly did our fight scenes.

But at least we could still see Gilian, She was there. Sugar Bear introduced her to thunderous applause and cheering! She seemed very overwhelmed and embarrassed. Then she had to shoot the scene with her walk out of the tunnel and down the steps while we were fighting. Oh and Mulder's in this scene too! He's down on the floor watching as Scully comes down. Gillian was so sweet. Every time she went back up the stairs to redo the scene she would smile and say hello to people on the aisle seats. People were gathered around the tunnel entrance watching her and laughing. I couldn't see there but I could see her as she walked up and down the stairs partway. On one take when the director said we had to do it again she turned around and got this funny look of exasperation on her face. it was just like one Scully gives Mulder in response to onre of his weird theories! She was Gillan but that was definately a Scully look there! During the scene the director is telling her to look at Mulder with a gloating expression. Sounds like Scully got the case right this time for a change! I won't say anything more about what happened in the scene.

I couldn't hear but someone told me at one point Gillian said to the crowd, "Who threw popcorn at me!?" LOL. It sure wasn't us, stuck way in the back!

After that scene was done we reclaimed our great front row seats in time to hear one of the directors say Gillian woul like to say a few words to us. She told us she had to leave but we had to stay! (To work more) But she said David would be back (we cheered) and she thanked us all. But before she could get away a rush of fans pressed against the railing yelling at her and asking for autographs. And my goodness, she started signing! As many she could. People were talking to her and she was smiling and signing up and down the line as quickly as she could. She's very good at doing that fast! And when we thought she was going to leave she kept staying longer! She was being so nice and wanted to get to as many people as she could. And there we were in our great front seats. I didn't have anything for her to sign and I'm not that big on autographs but I goy what I wanted. I told her we loved her episode and held out my hand. She switched the pen out og her right hand and shook it. Yep! I shook Gillian Anderson's hand. Vindication for our earlier seat ejection! I got to meet Gillian. :-) Cool. She finally had to go even though a lot of people didn't get close up to meet her so we felt lucky once again!

And then....more fighting! We were in a better mood now after meeting Gillian so we fought very enthusiastically. I was getting clobbered! LOL It was fun although I was a bit worried because the rope on the railing which was usually there needed to be open so Tex Cobb's standin could run down the steps. Fortunately I didn't tumble down the stairs!

We then got moved to the other side and David returned for more shots from different angles. I think we just pantomime cheered for this. And we weren't nearly as close to David. After his last scene one of the directors said David wanted to say a few words on the micropgone. He thanked us and appreciated all our help. He actally sounded a little nervous talking to us all. He thanked us in particular for our good fighting! He was impressed! And then off he went. I saw him as he walked up the ramp and then quickly out.

After that we stayed for more cover shots with Tex and Kathy Griffin and they finished raffling off all the prizes. We were done at 10:00pm.

What a day!

Some impressions...I liked the AD better than the regular director who was hard to hear. Sugar Bear was funny and worked the crowd better than Shapiro but then he was used to us.

The crowd seemed to be Gillian fan heavy, Her applause was much louder than David's when he was standing there when she received it. I wonder how he felt about that? She was given more of a buildup and introduction than he was. Who's choice was that, I wonder?
David seemed rather reserved. He did have a long chat with Tex when Tex was in the ring. (With David's hands most of the time resting and stretched out spread on the wrestling ring mat. A great pose for all you Mulder hand fans!)

He's thin in person. We saw him with just his dress shirt not tucked in. So the people on the Fox boards who say they think he's fat are totally wrong!
The only thing I wish I'd seen was a more involved scene between David and Gillian. But I'm certainly not complaining! What a fantastic experience and I wish you all could have been there too!
