I love the way he acts in "Emily", too! He is *SO* much in Daddy-mode, doing everything he can to protect his wife and child. . .IMHO, that's exactly how he was behaving. . .as if Scully were his wife and Emily their daughter.
Yes, he hurts Scully sometimes and that makes even a Mulderlover like me want to slap some sense into him!! But I think she hurts him, sometimes, too. How do you think he felt when he finally grasped his courage to tell her "I love you" and she responded with "Oh, brother!"???
