Subject: "Little Green Men and "The Host"

just watched "Little Green Men" and "The Host". I realize I'm a shipper, but I was really struck by the intensity of the MSR in these eps, espcially "LGM". In LGM, we've got Mulder telling Scully stuff like "I used to only trust myself; now I only trust you" and "You're all I've got and they're trying to take you away from me" and Scully is practically crawling all over Mulder (not that I blame her!). . .running her fingers through his hair, grasping his biceps and reaching over to hold hands with him in the final scene. It seems strange that after putting all this is into the first episode of the second season, CC would later try to backpedal and claim he'd "never intended" for people to assume M&S had a romantic interest in each other.
One thing I didn't understand about "LGM" (maybe I need to watch the last couple of eps of season one again in order to grasp this, or maybe somebody here can explain it to me) is why Scully got to go back to doing what she did before she joined Mulder on the X-Files (teaching at Quantico) but Mulder was "punished" by being forced to do routine wiretap work instead of being allowed to return to his work as a criminal profiler? (Of course, one thing that never made sense during the entire course of XF is why if "they" didn't want Mulder working the X-Files "they" didn't simply reassign him?)
"The Host" was pretty yucky and just not as interesting of an ep, although it did seem notable for being the first episode with fairly heavy Skinner involvement. It also seems to be one of the *very* few eps where the "monster" (Flukeman, in this case) was seen by numerous people other than Mulder and Scully.
BTW, I've borrowed season two on DVD from a friend and will be watching them and posting these little mini-reviews here over the next couple of months. If anyone else has this season on DVD and wants to watch/comment on the eps along with me, that would be fun.
