Subject: "Blood" and "Sleepless"

Blood" was an ep I barely remembered, but which proved surprisingly entertaining on a repeated viewing. Mulder and Scully pretty much figured out -- and even more-or-less agreed on -- *what* was causing otherwise normal citizens of Franklin, Pennsylvania to freak out and become spree killers. . .a combination of pesticides, electronic commands and their own natural paranoias. What was never answered was who was behind it or why they would want to turn a bunch of previously normal people into mass murderers, giving the ep an element of ambiguity so prized by X-Philes. One nice note was this was one of the few eps where the local police had actually requested Mulder's presence and were cooperating with him; in many eps it seems that M&S spend as much time fighting with local law enforcement as they do actually investigating the case.
"Sleepless" was an okay ep. I'm sure many people love it since it introduces Krycek, but I've never been a huge Krycek fan so that part doesn't matter much to me. I did like the part at the end where Krycek was telling CSM and the other members of the Consortium that Scully was a much bigger problem than he'd been led to believe. I think the one thing that never occurred to CSM was that Mulder and Scully would "bond" with each other, giving him *two* over zealous FBI agents to contend with, rather than just one. As far as the X-File itself, it may be notable as one of the few eps where the villian/mutant/whatever was black; perhaps the only ep in which the X-File was predominantly linked to an American-born black, as the few others I remember featured African or Haitian immigrants. Although poor "Preacher" Cole, definitely fell more into the category of "I-can't-help-myself" guys than outright evil ones.
