Even though Mulder and Scully get realllly old. It was an interesting idea. Fearful Symmetry on the other hand is one of the most forgettable episodes of the series. It just sort of lays there. I don't know about the invisble animals vs. humans. Different chemicl makeup maybe? Maybe it has to do with Einstein and relativity and the animals have returned from being in a different time.
