Subject: "Anasazi"

"Anasazi/Blessing Way/Paper Clip" (which I usually count as all one ep, although this post will just be about "Anasazi") is one of my all-time top ten fave XF eps, as well as my absolute favorite among mytharc multi-parters, so I enjoyed rewatching this. Mulder looks really, really yummy in the jeans and tank top he wears throughout most of this ep. . .and even yummier when he wakes up in Scully's bed wearing nothing but his gray boxer-briefs! I'm not a huge Krycek fan, but I love the Mulder/Krycek fight scene in this ep; the Mulder/Skinner fight scene is pretty good, too.
While Mulder gets all the "action" in this ep, I think it's actually more about Scully. . .the way she's changed due to her work on the X-Files. . .how she now accepts that there *is* some sort of "conspiracy" out there that she and Mulder are in the process of uncovering. IMHO, this is the first ep where we know, for sure, that Scully loves Mulder. She's like a woman possesed as she lies to superiors, breaks rules and drags a drugged, unconscious, wounded Mulder across the country to save him. It's fun to see how well she now knows Mulder; even though his everyday behavior is "weird" by most people's standards, she can tell when it's his normal nuttiness and when there's something wrong with him.
I like the scene in the motel room where Mulder looks at Scully and says, "Thank you for taking care of me". Some people have said over the years -- and not totally without reason, because he *can* be a jerk at times -- that Mulder doesn't appreciate Scully enough. But he does at least occasionally (not only here, but also in the famous "hallway scene" from the movie) express gratitude to Scully. Did she ever say "thank you" to him?? As in "Thank you, Mulder, for trading your sister to the Alien Bounty Hunter so that he wouldn't kill me?" or "Thank you, Mulder, for saving me from the cannibals?"
How big was XF when this ep first aired? Did everybody know it was coming back for a third season or was there some possibility that the end of "Anasazi", with Mulder presumably dead and Scully's career on the rocks, could have been the series finale?
