These are great eps that had me sniffling at various times despite the fact that I *knew* how everything was going to turn out. One thing that's difficult to remember -- given what a good guy he turned out to be in later seasons -- is that when these eps first aired a lot of viewers really believed Skinner was going to turn out to be the bad agent as, up to this point in the series, he'd been kind of an ambiguous character.
For a shipper, these eps are pure heaven. It was *SO* evident that Mulder and Scully love each other from the way they behaved. She kept offering to take the blame for shooting the man he'd killed (the other guy had a gun and aimed it right at Mulder, so the killing was obviously self-defense; we never saw Mulder actually tell anybody that, but I suppose he must have at some point, because he wasn't arrested) and he made it clear to anybody who would listen that the *ONLY* thing that mattered to him was curing Scully's cancer. . .that all the other things he'd spent virtually his entire life searching for -- like his sister and proof of extra-terrestrial life -- simply weren't important in comparison to saving the partner he loved.
The only confusing thing about these eps is: since Mulder obviously realized at this point, if he hadn't before, that he was in love with Scully. . .why did he wait another entire year before he told her?
