Subject: "Detour" and "A Post-Modern Prometheus"

"Detour" is one of my all-time fave XF eps (and, judging by her screen name, one our moderator's faves, too) and it holds up even under repeated viewing. One of the things I like most about this was that Mulder and Scully were actually *together* during virtually the entire ep. The "typical" XF ep usually has them in different places for several scenes, and a lot of has been made over the years that communication between the two of them more commonly took place via cell phones rather than in face-to-face conversations. But in this ep they were side by side and talking face-to-face throughout.
It was also a very shippy ep, which delighted me. It may have also been the ONLY episode where Scully came onto Mulder, rather than vice versa. I love the scene where she comes into the motel room and suggests the two of them have a private party. (The fact that he blows her off so completely makes me a little more sympathetic to her when she replies "You've got to be kidding" when he tells her "I love you" a year later.) IMHO, the shippiest part may have actually been at the very end, where she was packing up his clothes. That's just so. . .wifey.
PMP is a great ep but it's a little bit. . .confusing. The main thing is, with the "comic book" beginning and ending, I think most X-Philes don't know if we're supposed to regard it is as something that "really" happened to Mulder and Scully or as dream of some sort. M&S never mentioned it again, the way they referenced some of their other early cases in later eps, so we just don't know. One thing I always kinda wondered throughout XF was. . .why did paranormal or telepathic abilities of some sort always seem to turn people into homicidal maniacs?? In this ep, we had a "monster" who actually didn't mean any harm; he just happened to scare people because of his disfigurement, so that was nice.
The ending was fantastic! The look on Mulder's face when he twirls around and holds out his hand to Scully is priceless.
