Subject: A tie-in between "Biogenesis", "Brand X" and Dave Barry

One of the weirder comments (though certainly not up there with Mulder's infamous "I'm not a psychologist" line in a season six ep) during season seven was Scully's greeting to Mulder when he returned to their office in the "two weeks later" segment of "Brand X". I forget the exact wording, but the implication of her comment was that she hadn't seen or spoken with him for the entire two weeks of him recuperation. This was weird on several levels:
1.) Since this ep aired after "all things", and given the final line of "Requiem" (which aired just a couple of weeks later), they were almost certainly lovers by this point in their relationsip.
2.) Even if they hadn't been lovers, they were still partners/best friends who cared deeply about each other (even noromos admit this). . .so it's unlikely they would have gone two weeks without speaking to each other or that she wouldn't have visited him during his convalescence.
3.) Leaving aside all her personal feelings for Mulder, Scully was also the doctor who prescribed the course of treatment that led to his recovery. If nothing else, she had an ethical obligation, from a medical standpoint, to check on how his recovery was progressing.
But, let's remember that in "Biogenesis" Scully discovered their office was bugged. Presumably she shared this information with Mulder once he returned to work and she returned from Africa. So their little performance near the end of "Brand X" was probably for the benefit of their candid camera audience.
Dave Barry, for those of you who aren't familiar with him, is an American humor columnist. He's hilariously funny and one of his best-known columns details the way you can tell whether or not two of your co-workers are having a clandestine affair with each other. He says the biggest tipoff is that people who are having an affair always overdo their seeming lack of interest in each other. Ergo, when a man and a woman who formerly had joked, flirted and traded sexual innuendos with each other suddenly start treating each other stilted politeness and extreme formality in public, it's a dead giveaway that they're bonking each other's brains out in private! (It doesn't sound funny the way I'm telling it but, believe me, it's hilarious when Dave Barry writes it.)
So. . .look at the way Mulder and Scully were acting in the office in "The Unnatural" at the end of season six, versus the way they were acting in the office during "Brand X" and it's pretty obvious where their out-of-office relationship had progressed to by that point!
