Yes I think when it came to religion oriented cases Scully was able to believe more readily. But I put that in a different category because it involve Scully's acceptance of having faith. Humbug wasn't related to religion at all so that one surprised me.

I tend to chock up that scene of Mulder in the church as just something the writer put in on that ep. I look on Mulder as being an agnostic for long time. He may have lost what ever belief he had when his sister was taken.
