but you're right. The only children we seem to hear about during WW ll are the Jewish children in Europe and Poland. You sound about the same age as my younger brother. Mom was born in the early 30's so she was a young teenager during the war. We haven't read much about the things that women did during the war either--at least until movies brought the subject to the big screen. They not only made airplanes and ammunition, women also stepped into roles such as School Superintendents and principals. When the guys came home they were, of course, sent back into the classroom or more commonly back home to have babies.
