personally, I'd rather *not* think of Scully as ever having been the type of woman (even as a college student) who would have an affair with a married man! And I'd like to think she isn't the type for a one night stand with a man she barely knows, so I'd prefer to think she didn't sleep with Ed Jerse, either.
I've always assumed that, prior to Mulder, she had an affair (in the sexual sense) with Jack Willis and probably at least one other man. She was must have already been in her late 20s when she met Jack Willis, as she'd already been through college and medical school by that point, and unless a person is *VERY* devoutly religious, few people remain virgins past the age of 25 nowadays.
I guess I feel there is some sort of mid-point between portraying a woman as an utterly pure, Virgin Mary type, and portraying her as the kind of woman who has sex with married men, has sex with guys she's only met 12 hours eariler, etc. Actually, I think the vast majority of American women in their 30s would be somewhere between these two extremes, so I'd just sort of naturally assume Scully would be, too.
