In season 6 Rain King was just one of too many. I remember at the time people were wondering when they were going to stop with all the funny stuff. They needed to space them out more. That's why it's called comic relief. It's meant to be the exception to the norm.

Seeing Morris and Mulder as Scully saw them might have been an interesting way to play it too but I guess the idea was that we were in on what was going on while Scully wasn't.

Victoria Jackson wasn't a good choice but I will say that casting wasn't as bad as Kathy Griffin in Fight Club.
