My feelings on Fox were the same! I figured the show sounded like those speculation programs about abductees that used to air on local channels and coupled by the fact that it was on Fox I thought it would be a stupid show. So I didn't watch for quite a while. Playing catch up was fun! BDM you should fill out my guestbook (linked on the main page) if you get a chance. It's a nice little profile of everyone's XF interests.

I agree they've made some major mistakes with the MSR. Things were so great the first few years. I think their big mistake was not dealing more directly with the almost kiss in FTF. It could have been a great sub plot with them both trying to sort out how they felt. It didn't have to take over the show. Instead the NON romance took over the show with eps like Arcadia which seemed to be CC's way of belittling everyone's ideas of how a Mulder-Scully romance could go. If CC wanted to keep things purely platonic I would have been fine with that. But once he jumped in the shallow end with that kiss it was his fault for giving fans reasons to think something would happen. The storylines should have reflected that. It makes me mad too because I think DD and GA would have been more happy campers if they'd had a personal relationship story of depth to sink their acting teeth into.

I never cared for the show's tactic of separating myth shows from MOTWs either. Other tv series don't seem to have a problem with it. I was particularly disappointed in how they went back to a normal show right after Scully found out about her cancer. And DPO was the episode that aired right after Melissa and Bill Mulder were both killed. But things didn't reflect any change in Mulder and Scully. They have done it before. After Scullys abduction they aired Firewalker and they did talk about her getting back to work after her ordeal. Little references like that add so much.

As for getting frisky (lol Isn't that what Mrs. Cunningham used to say?), I sort of thought there was a bit of that implied--in a Mulder and Scully understated sort of way--in that scene in Requiem. When Mulder climbed in bed beside her, Scully gave him a look like she was a bit worried because they'd agreed there would be no hanky panky on cases. I don't need to see anything more implied than that.

I think Eddie Van Blundht had some comment about how the taxpayer's money was being spent, didn't he? (when he took a look at Mulder's UFO paraphenalia). And wasn't Mulder a Jerry Springer type guest once? That's how the woman in PMP knew about him. I don't know, I kind of like the FBI being a bit distasnty from the "normal" stuff happening in the outside world. At least on The X-Files. That doesn't mean I don't want the show to have a sernse of realism. I think that's needed to make the unreal seem credible.
