All great thoughts here but I'm sorry, they needed to address their lovemaking in "all things". Even if it was a one night stand (day stand) there should have been some awkwardness the next day (episode). Unless a show or film is a total avant-garde piece of work a la David Lynch, theres no reason why there can't be clear story telling. Yes this show is all about mystery but its mystery set in some parameters. Its not far out stuff that isn't supposed to make sense. Mullholland Drive, now that was weird although I still liked it, had to go on the web to get an idea of what the hell people thought it meant afterwards.

I also remember DD saying they should have started a romance on the show so they'd have something new to act. He was getting bored and eventually it drove him from the show. CC did dip his foot in the water but apparently was afraid of given in thinking it would change the show too much and turn viewers away. I don't know the noromo/shipper ratio but losing one segment or another could have been a problem. Instead they lost a lead and that finally did it. I would have been fine with them never getting together or gradually going into to it in full broad daylight with us hearing it all (not the sex-what leads up to it).

Now I'm glad you mentioned Arcadia. That was an ep that had the potential to get them closer than ever. In being undercover as a married couple, they might have had to be in a situation in which they would need to kiss to avoid suspicion. Yes, a contrived scene but why not. Had to do it, duty and all. But after such a kiss comes them thinking "oh, that was nice". And then the glances and awkward motions and what not. But no, the ep was played for laughs with all the "snookims" back and forth.

My idea about the media is more in this vein: if I were a reporter and I heard about these 2 and their involvement in so many bizarre events, I'd be camped out at Mulder's apartment and follow him around and get the goods on all this stuff. It would complicate M/S's lives and be a humorous sub-plot. Or not.

Speaking of sub-plots, I agree with you det on the mytharc vs. MOTW eps. I wish a little dialogue could keep the flow rather than have them act like they haven't been through a big trauma last week. I suppose in those cases, one could say more than a week went by, enough to get back into the groove of working on cases again. One thing I felt was so not addressed was Spender's death. I mean he was killed in their office, they had nothing to say about him? They just cleaned up and went back to work? And the next time they meet CSM, no mention of how much a bastard he is for killing his own son? For awhile, I thought that perhaps CSM had fired but deliberately missed him and that Spender was in hiding, to return in a latter mytharc ep. Oh well.

I think the reassigning of M/S was always related to shutting down the X-Files, not them being suspected of romance. Can't recall Requiem so much but I thought that bedroom scene was another sensitive friendship scene rather than a shippy scene IMHO.
