I agree they should have addressed it even if it was just a small reference. CC spends way too much time dancing around the truth and trying to keep secrets instead of telling the story properly. It didn't have to be a major deal.

I guess the reporter in Hollywood AD was close to your thoughts of being a snoopy guy following them I'm not sure but I think FBI Aegnts might have protection against reporters being around. The can't interfere with their jobs. I never hear about the day to day details of agents when they are on a case so maybe it's just not done. Only later on when they are making threir official press statements regarding how things are going.

Spender's post death was ridiculous.
I can't recall what episode was after but didn't Mulder and Scully have anything to say about all the blood in their office? I suppose CSM coud have brought his goons in for a cleanup. They do that a lot. The writers never seemed to want to connect big events with minute details like taking about how people feel about this death or that. I guess that makes it too soap opera-y.
