Watched this season one ep in reruns this weekend. I enjoyed it, but in retrospect it seems kind of odd that three of the first four XF eps focused on UFOs.
One thing I'd sort of forgotten about was the scene at the end, where Mulder is in a church crying over a picture of Samantha, while Scully listens to tapes of his regression hypnotherapy in which he's saying "I want to believe".
IMHO, this scene refutes a lot of what was said in later years about Mulder being atheist or agnostic or, for that matter, Jewish. He went to a church to seek solace when he was in pain. That indicates to me that he was raised Christian and that, while he may be having some doubts as to its validity, he still "wants to believe".
