I didn't think it at all odd that the first few eps were about UFOs, because here in the UK at least, the show had been sold to us as a show about aliens and FBI investigations and government cover-ups regarding those aliens. I was more surprised when it went onto all things paranormal! This was the oddity for me. I didn't mind this because at least I knew the alien-connected eps were bound to come back. Later, when Mulder's family got involved in the back story, and the mythology started to unfold, I felt this was the icing on the cake. This was going to be much more in-depth and compelling than I had thought possible. And so it was to prove. :-)
