I realize this is not considered one of the "better" season one eps, either by most fans or by the XF creative team themselves, but I happen to like it quite a bit. My three ALL-TIME favorite TV shows are "The X-Files" (bet you'd never have guessed, huh?), "Remington Steele" and a shortlived sci-fi series from the late 80s called "Probe". This XF episode was *very* similar to the pilot ep of "Probe", which may be one of the reasons I liked it so much.
I just thought it was a good, solid episode; certainly preferable to "Shadows" from the week before. I liked how Mulder and Scully came to the same conclusion while following different paths and both ended up at the Eurisko building at the same time. XF has always billed itself as a "science fiction" series, and this is one of the few eps where it actually seems to merit inclusion in that genre. I also feel this was the first episode where we see Scully display what soon becomes her normal attitude toward Mulder; indignant on his behalf when someone else tries to take credit for his work and sympathetic and gentle with him when he's lost someone he was once close to.
The only funny thing was I kept wondering why they didn't consult the Lone Gunmen; it wasn't until nearly the end of the ep that I realized we haven't "met" the guys yet!
