let's just say that if Mulder, Scully and I had all been in high school together, he would have been a year ahead of me and she would have been a year behind me. That's basing their birthdates on the school starting ages in Texas; I realize these things do vary a bit from state to state.
Back in the 80s, when I was in my 20s, it seemed like most shows were about people in their 30s; stuff like "LA Law", "Moonlighting" and, of course, "thirtysomething". Right around the time I turned 30, suddenly most shows were things like "Melrose Place" and "Friends", that focused on people in their 20s. So XF is one of the few shows that focuses on my specific demographic, which is the very tail end of the baby boom.
I never wanted to be hip, either. For that matter, I didn't even have much interest in being carefree. I married young and had kids young, not because of any sort of societal/family pressure to do so, but simply because it was what I wanted. So that's always put me a little out of the loop with a lot of my age contemporaries. While most people I went to high school and college with were pursuing careers, having affairs, etc. I was having babies.
