I suspect I am a few years older than you are--I was chasing my kids outside to play during the 70's. I do know what you mean though. I and most of my friends had both parents (a couple of friends dads had died) and divorced parents was almost unheard of. My mom was pretty good about talking to us about sex, love, the ways of the world as you put it and we could always ask her anything we wanted to know. Television soap operas were about as racy as things would get and they weren't on after school was out. (Now I am really dating myself, LOL) Anyhow, I don't think censorship is the answer but I think that television and parents need to be very aware of what is available for children and teenage viewing.

Benny Hill--how funny as that show is a lot cleaner than many of the movies and television shows kids get to watch now days. I frankly liked the show for the puns, sarcasm, irony and satire which he used so very well. Like your mother, mine didn't like him either and I guess I can understand that.

Television for me is one way to keep my brain from turning into mush. I like shows where I have to think--try and solve a puzzle (mystery). If I need to do something brainless I just go iron a few shirts. That will do it everytime for me!
