This was an okay ep. There wasn't enough Mulder/Scully interaction for my taste (Scully had more scenes with Jack Willis than with Mulder) and, as it was the second week in a row in which Mulder had to rescue Scully, (he'd saved her from a rapist in "Genderbender" the week before) it made her seem a bit of a "damsel in distress" which she definitely isn't!
Aside from the MSR aspects, I thought the X-File itself was inconsistent. First Jack's body was supposed to have been "taken over" by the bank robber he'd shot but, later, he kept flipping between being Jack and being the robber. Also -- this is real nitpicky but I just happened to catch it -- Scully referred to Mulder being "two months early" for her birthday, which is in late February. But "Beyond the Sea", which aired several weeks previously, took place just after Christmas (in the opening scenes of "BtS", Scully's Dad is teasing her about still having her Christmas tree up)and "Genderbender" took place after that, so by this time we should be to late January; meaning Mulder's only one month early, not two, for her birthday.
I did like the concern Mulder showed over Scully's abduction, though. He was so worried about he was willing to make a real effort to be a team player. This ep was mediocore compared to most of the others from season one, but compared to some of the real clunkers we got in later years, it's not bad.
