Subject: To all those in the 'Never Again' discussion...

I thought I'd start a new thread in case it got lost down there. Everyone sure has some good ideas on Never Again and it's great, as Cvl said, to see the Old Eps board jumping. :-)

I hope you all don't mind if I fill you in on the real situation with the episode order. I don't mean to be a miss know-it-all but I remember when these eps first aired and there were some interviews later about the situation.

Morgan and Wong, who wrote it were reportedly not at all pleased that this ep aired in between Leonard Betts and Memento Mori for its original airing because it was not supposed to be related to her cancer at all and they didn't like fans coming to the conclusion that Scully was upset because of her illness. I know that's what I thought! But they didn't write it that way.

The reason for the out of order airing was because of the Superbowl of all things. Every year whatever TV network airs the Superbowl puts one of their key shows on right after because that show always gets huge ratings. Fox had it that year and up until season 4 TXF was still just a minor cult show. The episode that aired after the Superbowl was the first XF ep to gain a mainstream audience and turn into into the big hit it became so this was a big turning point for the show.

At the time, CC had to decide which ep to show to what would know doubt be a big audience including many viewers who had never seen TXF before. They only had two episodes to choose from that were finished, Never Again and Leonard Betts. Even though Never Again was first they chose to show Leonard Bewtts to a new audience because it had more Mulder in it and was more of what they felt was a typical example of the show. Nevewr Again was Mulder lite and Scully centered. So they went with LB.

Funny how it worked out though because I still like thinking that Scully was so moody in Never Again in part because of her cancer.

Sorry for the long explanation!
