Subject: I think it was shippy because...

... Mulder showed a blatant jealousy in his dealings with Scully over Padgett. I know some people will say he was being protective - but still, he was quite annoyed with her over her being in Padgett's apartment. In fact, there was almost a feeling of accusation towards her, when he was telling her about the content of the novel. Not just the bit where he questioned her about 'the naked pretzel' but I felt there was an insinuation that she had somehow encouraged those feelings in Padgett. And going off into Padgett's bedroom with him looked quite provocative.

And further (on shippiness) on Scully's side - I felt that Padgett made a very strong point to his killer/character about Scully unconsciously trying to get Mulder's attention. She showed quite a vulnerable side and it was an opportunity for Mulder to see her as such. The fact that he doesn't really understand her vulnerable feelings and her wanting to be appreciated (like in Never Again)is surprising, but then Mulder's an ordinary man, really. Perhaps he doesn't understand a woman's psyche after all, even with his psychology degree!

Watching Alpha this weekend, too, I saw that Mulder did the same thing with that wolf woman Karen Berquist. He had no idea she that the real reason she wanted to meet him was because she fancied him, where it was very obvious to Scully.
