Subject: I see your point about Scully doing her duty but...

I think it was the scene itself and the episode that was just badly executed. I still think she could have handled it better. SHe could have in tructed the pregnant woman's husband to take care of his wife for minute while she went after Mulder. It wouldn't have taken that long to bring him back in. Or she could have ordered the husband to go get Mulder. Look at it this way. If it's her duty to protect the lives of all involved, what if Mulder had been just an ordinary citizen? Should she have sacrificed that person's life over someone else's. I just think she could have done more and been more forceful.

But more importanly is that it doesn't explain the bizarre scene at the end where Dales says that Scully saved Mulder's life. How did she possibly do that? I guess maybe he was saying that because she *didn't* go out and get him he was able to get to fresh water with the cat's guidance. But Dales made it sound like Sculluy was a big hero in saving Mulder when his life was saved by accident (and by a cat). And then there was that part where Scully realises that it's the fresh water but there's no follow through to that. The whole thing was a mess IMO.
