It's so amusing between them because although both know that they hold opposing stand points on stuff, they occasionally feel the need to check each other. I have a similar relationship with my sister. We take opposing stances automatically, half the time and then it becomes so predictable to do this I feel like saying "How come we alwyas disagree for the sake of it? Can't we just come to some mutual place?" Whether this was hugely significant or even just a spat between friends who know each other well, it still makes for an interesting scene.

Actually, not only did the doc repeat Scully about the 'ritual murder' aspect, but Mulder did it too, if you recall. It sounded even more hollow coming out of his mouth and at the third time of hearing it, alarm bells should have been well and truly going off in Scully's head! They both did the thing that they just don't do: He told her about the alien and she accepted it straightaway and told him she was wrong; and then he started buying all the ritual murder stuff without analysis. Not normal.

Yes, if an episode (or feature film) plot is spoiled, it's permanently spoiled. You can't put the genie back in the bottle, as they say. In a case like this one, it's the central premise of this plot that you *can't* make sense of it. Someone reveals the ending - it's like telling everyone what Charlton Heston sees on the beach at the end of Planet of the Apes! Outrageous!
