As I've decided to play devil's advocate, no matter whose side I was previously on - I'd say yes, Scully should stick with her 'patient' but that it was maybe her *desire* to go and save Mulder, even though she couldn't. Perhaps she felt bad about her own actions - we don't really know. I thought the members of the public she had with her were not exactly capable of protecting themselves from a dangerous situation. They needed her - and I still think she might have to make choices from the head, to stick with them, rather than rashly go all out to find Mulder.
On the other hand...
