It's better than I can do with you footballers. It's good that you know Mickey Mantle because then you got that cute joke at the end where Scully said that one Fox Mantle called her. He played for the Yankees which is DD's favorite team.
You've probably heard of Joltin' Joe Dimaggio (also a Yankee) because of the Simon and Garfunkle song, "Mrs. Robinson", maybe? I think he's also mentioned in a song by the British group Sleeper. And he also was married to Marilyn Monroe you may have heard about.

A couple other players in that list Mulder rattled off to Dales. Sandy Koufax, maybe the best pitcher ever. He was in the Los Angeles Dodgers (same team Vin Scully broadcasts for). And the Gibsons, Josh and Kirk. Josh was a famous player in the Negro League and that's the jersey Mulder is wearing at the end. Kirk was also on the Dodgers (we've had a great team through the years and I need to balance things out since you seem to know the New York players ;-)) and is most famous for hitting a very dramatic homerun to win a very important game and he did it while injured and limping around the bases. It was so dramatic and like something out of a movie that it is compared to the famous scene in the Robert Redford film, The Natural which is where the title of the epsiode comes from! Have you ever seen that movie?
Just some background info for you!
There will be a quiz. ;-)

I don't know any of those soccer players! We just don't get it here. Ask any American to name a soccer player and we'll all say the same thing: Pele. He's the only one just about everyone knows. Although the women's US soccer team got a lot of recogntion because of the last Olympics as well as winning the World cup so a couple of those players are known here now.

I don't know what the aliens might use. You don't think they have money? Is that because they don't wear any clothes so they don't have pockets? ;-) I'm still trying to figure out if the Bounty Hunter is the same guy or is he a different Bounty Hunter each time and they all just look the same when they morph.
