Not only are they all New York player but thre of them are on the evil New York Yankeees! That's one of the Dodgers big rivals. DiMaggio, Mantle and Babe Ruth were all Yankees. I THINK WIllie Mays was on the New York Giants. I don't know how you might have heard of him. A great player for sure but there are others I would think would be more recognizable.

Actually the New York thing is understandable. When baseball first started there were no west coast teams, only teams in the Eastern US. Many teams later moved their franchises out west. The NEw York Giants became the San Francisco Giants and THe Brooklyn (a NY burough) Dodgers became the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Yankees are the most famous team in baseball. They do have the longest history and a lot of their players achieved historical significance so it's not surprising that you know them best. There have been quite few films made about baseball and I think more than any others have focused on the Yankees. You may also have heard of Lou Gherig, another Yankee who set a record for playing in the most consecutive games without ever taking a day off. Unfortunately he's also well known for contracting a deadl illness which is commonly known today as Lou Gherig's disease.

The one Dodger player I thought you might have heard of is Jackie Robinson. I think he may have been mentioned in The Unnatural ep. He broke the color barrier in 1947 by becoming the first black player to play in the major league baseball when he joined The Dodgers. I think DD came up with the idea for this ep because of the year 1947. There apparently was a bery good player for a real team in the negro leagues called the Roswell Grays! And of course we have the 1947 Roswell crash connection. So DD thought, what if that player was an alien? I didn't know about this story DD explained it in interviews.

Well I hope I'm not boring you TOO much with all this baseball trivia! :-)

Btw I found out not all that long ago something I never knew which is that the word "yankee" is a very dirogatory word the British gave to Amercan soldiers during the revolutionary war. I knew they were called that but I didn't know what the term meant. Now it makes me laugh that that's the name of the baseball team since I'm not a Yankee fan! ;-)

Good points on the aliens not needing money. They probably do things very differently. I think they just need to look like us so they can sneak around on earth.
Don't worry about you inventing football and not being the best at it. We invented rock and roll but I'd have to say that overall British rock has been better over the years! The Beatles, The Who, Queen, the Rolling Stones...what US bands can compare?

I like Simon and Garfunkel a lot too!
Nothing wrong with 60's/70's music (except for that disco thing)!

I haven't read that book but I'll certanily check it out! Sounds good! I've been trying to do more reading lately and just can't seem to find something good to interest me.

det

P.S I was wondering if I could put up a pic here that was used as an advertisement for the two part Season 7 opener. Would that be too much of a spoiler for you? I think you'll like the picture! ;-) It originally appeared in our TV GUide here.
