since as i'm also in SMH's position, i managed to get hold of a copy of S4. incidentally, this is the last season i've managed to see! anyway, i was surprised to see repeated mentions of scully's cancer, in a few of the later S4 eps. is this possibly the only time they've brought myth arc into the MOTW's? although, thinking about it, i don't think it is. but its certainly the strongest mention of it.

i was surprised at some of the S4 eps. the majority of them were really good - i don't know what i was expecting! i loved paper hearts particularly, and also small potatoes, elegy, musings of CSM, and tunguska and terma, for sheer krycek appeal! :) never again, was also interesting - almost an early certain S7 ep? S4 certainly pushed forward the MSR. i never really saw a huge deal of it in S1, 2, or 3, but maybe thats because its become more of an issue as time has gone on, and more people seem to demand it.

going back to S5, i wouldn't necessarily say that there was less MSR, i just think it was pushed forwards into a new direction especially with the issue of scullys cancer coming to the forefront. TXF changes with every season, thats why i find it hard to compare them i think. especially having seen them out of order. as you mentioned, S6 was a very light hearted season, S4 and S5 seem more serious and almost myth based to me. although, i wouldn't want to say that categorically.... :)

incidentally, i'm aware of the issues that went on behind S5. and i'm sure it affected it, although everything seemed to return to normal during S6. i don't see how the show can't be affected. i think DD and GA being unwilling to do S8 affected S7. having DD and GA split for alot of S5 was certainly strange.

btw, the comments about scully and other agents is reassuring! i forgot about the guy in emily/christmas carol. i liked the chemistry between them - i kinda hoped more would be made of it. do you think doggett is likely to suffer the fowley syndrome though?!
:)

this was a really interesting post to stumble across - i really enjoyed reading it. not that i'm sucking up or anything! :)
