she was allowed to see the seraphim! Since she and other scientists need to see to believe--need the empirical facts--the vision was necessary to open her mind! (longer post to your question Devlin). I can't see her being a nun--shades of Sound of Music with the difference being that she wasn't a naive young girl leaving the convent. Rather she has had romantic (of some sort??) relations with men but nothing resembling a long-term relationship. Maybe the symbolism here is that her "cloister" really has been her work and that she needs Mulder (aka Cpt. Von Trapp) to pull her out into a *real* life???
