Subject: Monday, Monday, looks good to me.....

And 'Monday' was the second of our double bill on Saturday night. OK - criticism out of the way first - no pretence that we haven't seen this device used before. I'm talking about Groundhog Day, of course (and one of my favourite episodes of 'Star Trek, the Next Generation' too, incidentally). The way this started out with someone waking up was a bit too near Bill Murray's repeating day. It was amusing enough though. I liked how each segment was told differently and filmed differently, how even events that were similar, not identical, could still lead to the same conclusion. I liked the discussion of fate which was the heart of the story.

The opening was really dramatic. Mulder fatally wounded, Scully upset, trying to look after him, a man with a gun, a bomb! Then - BOOM! Oh right, our heroes are dead are they? Well, might as well go in the line of duty, trying to help people, I suppose. As Mulder might say "Zippeddy-doo-dah"!

Enjoyed the reappearance of the waterbed and I loved the in-joke at the end, when he ended up in his rightful sleeping place - the couch! I also thought Scully and Skinner's faces were a picture at the meeting in Skinner's office, when the very boring man was giving an account of the FBI crime statistics etc. LOL!

So, it was derivative but I think DD played it very well. A good mix between the comic and serious and as usual, the guest actors were very visually strong and their roles very well played.

Finally, I have to mention this - there was a *gorgeous* close-up of Mulder in the bank at the end. Quite special.
