There was suposedly some cut dialog from this scene. I can't find it on the interent now. But there was, according to what was reported, an exchange between M&S with Scully saying something like "Lookin good!" and Mulder's reply was "Right back at ya Red!"

If it was in the I'm glad they cut it. That kind of deflates the provocativeness (is that a word?) of the scene and just makes them seem more like buddy buddy. As it actually played, and you're right about how Mulder behaved, it implied something quite bit more personal and they both knew it! It worked better without them saying anything.
