I have wondered about Spender's death too and the fact that we see Mulder and Scully just return to using their old office without any mention of it. I had always thought they knew about his death, perhaps thinking it was a suicide, and knew it took place in the office, so I found it kind of strange that they would just return like everything was normal. Did they not cringe at the massive blood stain all over the floor?!

But you have a good point that maybe CSM cleaned up and left no traces. Though I'm not exactly sure how he could do that right under the FBI's noses. I guess not many people go down to the basement!

Now you've got me thinking though, how do we know if Mulder and Scully know that Spender is dead? Or that he was killed in the office? Maybe they think he just resigned and is working elsewhere. Nothing was explained to us about this! I guess it's another CC trick to leave things open in case they want to bring Spender back.
