This episode was presumably another one when viewers objected to the guest female being ‘enamoured’ of Mulder (as Scully put it). I felt quite sorry for Karen actually. She had become quite reliant on the internet, almost giving up on human interactions, spending her time with her dogs and with her illness, looking to the Internet for company (I have to be careful what I write here, as I’m sure a lot of us go onto the internet for company!)

I liked the fact that Mulder gave her respect as a professional in her field and he hadn’t seen the obvious signs that Scully had seen. I thought Scully was quite rude to the woman. It reminded me how she has behaved with other professional, intelligent women who Mulder has had contact with, or has had former relationships with. I include Phobe Green, Fowley and Bambi! OK, I forgive her, because the green-eyed monster has surfaced, but she doesn’t give Mulder the credit for at least picking people with brains. Or is she asking herself “What’s wrong with me? *I* have brains!”

One question I would ask about Karen – how come she wasn’t linked to the wolf creature? They made a point of saying she had lupus and then they didn’t bother with that fact again. OK, we know she encouraged the ‘dog’ to attack but I thought perhaps there should have been more connection made between her, Dettweiler and the dog.

It was a bit of a tired idea (and I really don’t like angry, slavering dogs!). Not a very exciting story, really. Perhaps someone else can fill me with inspiration to make me think this wasn’t merely average. I did like Mulder getting himself settled back into his office, and putting up his poster at the end. Glad to see his supply of pencils was there, all ready to go – and we know just what he’ll be doing with them. Newly painted ceiling – watch out. And there were cute lines:
Scully: Don’t mind him. He’ll go on forever.

Mulder: You get a biscuit, Scully

Scully: He doesn’t listen and he chews the furniture
