I wondered about the boy too. I'm sure he's meant to signify something, but I can only guess what that might be. It seems to me that Mulder's subconscience is trying to tell him something through the image of this boy. What that something was I'm not exactly sure of. I got several different impressions and ended up quite confused. I suppose one theory is that the boy was trying to tell him not to give up his quest, not to let himself be coaxed into believing that it's all right to abandon his search for the truth and settle into a contented domestic existence.

Your second question I can answer. 'Amor fati' translates to 'Love of fate'. It's a Latin phrase that was used by Friedrich Nietzche in his work, "The Gay Science":

"I still live, I still think: I still have to live, for I still have to think. Sum, ergo cogito: cogito, ergo sum. Today everybody permits himself the expression of his wish and his dearest thought; hence I , too, shall say what it is that I wish from myself today, and what was the first thought to run across my heart this year--what thought shall be for me the reason, warranty, and sweetness of my life henceforth. I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor Fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against that is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer."

Well, that's probably already a lot more than you wanted to know, but if that's not the case, this info comes from the official site, and there's lots more. FOX started adding research information to the (S7) episode guide, and *some* of it is actually quite interesting. More interesting than that bit about Amor Fati anyway, though it's kinda nice to now it's meaning.

Mat
