Subject: S7 Early Eps // Hungry thoughts. Tooms with a conscience?

Ok, Hungry was GROSS! ;oP But I liked it. :o) Except for a few things. :o(

First: How did Mulder become so clairvoyant that he supects Rob right away? Totally unbelievable in my opinion. Unless it was just the way Rob perceived it (since the ep was done from his p.o.v) and the guilt he felt because of his compulsion made him see things that weren't really there. But then there's also the way Mulder knows right away HOW the guy killed his victims and sucked their brains out. I mean, how would he know that so fast? Shades of "Terms of Endearment" emerged in my mind.

Second: The monster was really not that scary looking. What was with the ears falling off? That was just funny. And those teeth? It looked totally fake.

Third: Didn't like the way eating disorders and people who suffer from them were portrayed. This is serious stuff and should not be taken lightly. That whole scene in the Over-eaters anonymous meeting made me cringe. Not that I have an eating disorder or know anyone who does, but I do have a daughter and I know how easily girls can get sucked into the vicious circle of bingeing and purging to conform to the ideal body-shape today's society expects of women. These disorders are very common nowadays and should be taken very seriously and not be made fun of. Anyway, end of rant. :o)

And finally Fourth: Was that psychologist for real? How could she be so calm even after Rob shows her what he really is? Didn't she think he was going to kill her? She should have been terrified! Instead, she reaches out and touches him and feels compassion for him! Weird.

Other than that, I liked the way we saw the whole thing through the monster's eyes. I kept being reminded of Tooms all through he ep. The parallels were unmissable. But Rob is not like Eugene at all. Tooms was an animal in human form, with animal instincts, unable to have any human feelings at all. Rob is quite the opposite, he has a conscience. He knows what he does is very wrong and feels remorse and wants to stop killing people. Unfortunately, his true nature always takes over. His only way out was death, which he chooses in the end.

This could have been a really good ep if we had got to see Mulder and Scully's entire investigation, as opposed to just the bits when Rob was present. But it was the way the ep was meant to be and it was interesting, not great, it lacked something. More depth maybe, I don't know.

Not a bad, but not a terrible one eiter. :o)

C YA!
