Subject: TOE fans - where art thou?

Are there any of the FBI’s Most Unwanted types here, who can find good in the seemingly appalling? I think we need them to inject some new angle here and explain why we should give TOE another chance. I particularly feel sorry it turned out to be so bad, after we named our Old Eps Forum after it! It has been pointed out that this ep was written by someone new to the series, David Amann. Maybe John Shiban should have spoken to him a bit about his inconsistencies. I can’t believe that DD improvised the psychologist statement.

My explanation for that, by the way, comes with my British sense of irony – Mulder was being sarcastic!! Of course he’s a b***** psychologist, in his job or otherwise. No-one but he could come up with the flip explanation he came up with. He has proved himself very astute in the assessment of people. However, he excelled himself this time. No way could he have been so quick on the draw! I think this new writer better sort himself out before he writes the next one.

I liked det’s comments that we should trash the ep while we have it and I’m afraid it’s all there is to do. I asked if I was missing something in this plot, but I discover it was less complicated than I made it, almost. Behaviours in these low par eps get to me, because it makes it more difficult to explain motives in other circumstances, in good eps. I mean, Scully is left looking like a cypher, questioning Mulder’s speedy assumptions (which he can’t possibly have made, in the time allowed). Mulder is better than this. I agree with those that said how come Mulder can accept devils, which are definitely religious symbols and he can’t accept God or apparitions of good. If anyone should have been recognising the devil man, Wayne, maybe it should have been Scully, who at least holds religious beliefs!
