Hi All!

I'm just tacking on here. I'm in agreement with most
people here that it was a good solid episode. Not one of the all time greats but enjoyable with some interesting things in it. Just to add a few things that I haven't
seen mentioned, John Shiban wrote this one didn't he? That was a big surprise to a lot of people when this first aired. Who'd have thought he would be the one to return the show to normalcy! (Note: I'm not a Shiban basher, in fact
I've defended him in the past). Many people felt this was the best ep he's ever written. I really liked seeing
some of the regular things which were absent in S6 up to this point. Now I haven't watched this in a while but wasn't Mulder in a trench coat in this? It may have been the first TC appearance all season. It was also nice to see Scully doing her doctor/research investigating type stuff with another medical guy. (I'll have to see if there's a pic of him to see if I remember him Nic). Another absent XF staple.

As Nic said, I also knew Krycek would be in this (one of those big spoilers that got me fuming last year) so I can't judge whether I'd have guessed it was him but I don't think I had even noticed him in the boxing scene. Btw there was some descrepancy over when Skinner was infected. I think it was from the other boxer when they were in that clinch who Krycek had first bumped into I picked this up in a later viewing. But others had other ideas. What did you all think? As for Krycek, a lot of people back then who didn't know he was in this said they were totally surprised to find out it was him.

It was fun to see Matheson. I love it when they drag back a face from the past. But rather sad that he was no longer the reliable ally to Mulder he once was. As for calling him Fox, Devlin, I think everyone gets to call him that except Scully! Maybe because Mulder knows he sees her almost every day he can let the odd "Fox" mention go by from an aquaintance or a family member he rarely sees but he doesnt want to hear it on a daily basis from his partner. I think Matheson called him Fox in LGM too.
I don't know about the Senator's hair but people in politics aren't known for great hairstyles! Take a look at some of our other politicians. LOL ;-)

Now on to a couple of my favorite moments. I was surprised none of you mentioned the return of the pencils! Or have I got the wrong ep? During that scene when Mulder is at the office late at night isn't he throwing pencils at the ceiling again? What's he doing there all alone in the dark anyway? Or should I be asking that? ;-) Why doesn't he go home if his work is done? Poor Mulder all alone. :-( These are the things I wonder about.

OK that brings me to my favorite scene of the ep. Talking abput M&S moements, I disagreee with cvl on that. ;-) This had a great M&S&S moment. I loved the little scene with Skinner, Mulder and Scully in his outer office. It was just so nice to see the three of them talking quietly. Very intimate. Firat we have Mulder concerned about his boss--and despite qustions of loyalty in the past I think Mulder has a lot of repect and caring for him--so of course who does he phone but his best pal who just happens to be a doctor. Why is Scully so dressed up anyway? Had she recently left work or does she just live in those clothes 24/7!? But I liked the three of them together with M&S taking over in their concern for Skinner. (Asking him if he was sleeping alone?!). It was like the three of them against the world.

I too felt M&S should have recognized Ratboy from the photo. Or even if they didn't, why not put it through some of those photo enhancement thingys like they've done with other photos? ("Roland" for example or when Mulder ID'ed Skinner in Zero Sum). This was the only big flaw in another wise really good ep. Some, not me, speculated that perhaps Skinner, M&S were just staging that last scene in the office for the benefit of someone who might be listening in and they really all knew it was Krycek.

And on the M&S shippy stuff. I guess that's one reason I don't fit quite right into the shipper category, but to me, just scenes like M&S helping Skinner that night, and that scene outside his hospital room where the two of them are talking in whispers are special M&S moments. Maybe not outright shippy scenes but those are the intimate moments I like.

Well I hope everyone has more to say about this one. We certainly have enough time if the BBC is giving you a 4 week break! :-( And I agree with SMH that the second half of S6 comes out strong, but there are 3 more clunkers to go IMO (to varying degrees :-). Oddly enought, they all begin with the letter A! Maybe that's why there have been no eps starting with A in Season 7. They've learned their lesson! :-)

det :-)
