I know it's possible to over-analyse (Hey, we make an art form out of it, we fans!) but I don't think there was any kind of seed planting symbolism going on there. What it showed, this scene, if DD *did* adlib, was just how well he understands Mulder, that he knew exactly where he was in his head and knew what the seedsharing would mean to the audience. It's intuitive, by him. And that's why I think he is a great actor.

CW may have had something with the suggestion that M&S's closeness caused Morris to reflect on himself and his own failed relationship. His impatience in the car must have sprung from somewhere.
