Subject: Hands up if you *didn't* recognise Krycek!??
In reply to: detoured 's message, "Beardy weirdy Krycek, Vein Boy Skinner and an intimate moment..." on 20:14:55 03/15/00 Wed

I think maybe Shiban must have credited us with bad eyesight. He certainly made Mulder a bit blind. The moment when Krycek looked most recognisable (IMO) was when he was standing in the hospital corridor (I was going to say "Fiddling with his instrument"!) and Mulder saw him. I thought his whole stance was very Krycek and I was pretty convinced it was him right then. The trouble was, who *else* could it have been? It isn't as if there are lots of maverick bad guys out there who have it in for Mulder. The only other candidate was CSM himself and somehow I don't think he's athletic enough : )

I have to agree that the threesome in the office provided one of the best intimate moments between all the protagonists. And it was also cleverly mirrored when we see them at the end in Skinner's office and he has reverted back to his pinched and evasive state. I really did feel sorry for M&S at that point. After all they'd done. I can only surmise that Skinner felt it was against M&S's interests to tell them it was Krycek and to admit Krycek had a hold over him. He must have been trying to protect them. And I suppose in that respect, he *was* trying to support them.

You couldn't give this one many negative marks, really. I would like to have seen more of full face Krycek - oh yes, another moment when I thought "If you don't recognise him now!!!" was when he spoke on the phone with Senator Matheson. Krycek has a distinctive voice, for heaven's sake! But Shiban did well with this one. I have been one of his critics. He is sometimes a bit heavy handed with the characterisation moments. Like the pencil thing. Added to show he knew Mulder?? But on the whole, I really liked it.

I have always thought of Senator Matheson as being such a lofty figure that we would never see him involved in the action. Surprising to see him. Was there a touch of the Well Manicured Man's character given to him, in the absence of WMM himself?

And yes, Mulder was wearing his full length outdoor coat, which was all very well, (and cute!), but there was very bright sunshine in the daytime shots. It didn't look cold enough for a big coat. Trying to persuade us it was business as usual with the locations, cold like Vancouver.

I think Mulder being late at the office is always a mystery, but I never fail to worry about his mental health. He certainly doesn't take much time out from work to get any pleasure in life. His choice I suppose, but still fairly sad. I wonderered, too, (as you did) why Scully turned up at the hospital in her work clothes. And my other query is if Orgell came to the Bureau to warn Skinner, why didn't he? Skinner remembered Orgell stopping him in the corridor, but it turns out Orgell never delivered the warning message to Skinner. Why not?
