Why did your friend think Scully was out of character? Becasue she shouldn't have been so affected by that case?

I thought it was very real. I think anyone in tht line of work must have their breaking points and certain things that get to them more than others. What was good is that we weren't really given an explanation why. It wasn't needed. This case just struck a nerve with Scully and it bothered her and tht can happen in real life. It's a really good one with lots of Concerned!Mulder and Donnie is so creepy!

I agree Scully was partly affected by what the ghosts in Elegy represented regarding death but didn't she see the first one before Mulder brought the subject up? I'm not sue now. I think it's a cominbtion of both with her general fear of ghosts because she can't explain them and how it affected her regarding her health. As Chantal said below she saw her father's ghost in Beyond the Sea and that kind of shook her up too.
